According to Live Action, Planned Parenthood and A Woman's Choice in Raleigh Support Sex Selection Abortions

Today, the NC General Assembly is on the verge of passing the 2012 budget which contains a special provision to prevent organizations like Planned Parenthood from receiving tax dollars for family planning. Planned Parenthood has been leafleting the individual households in the districts of those members of the legislature who support this special provision.

Now, Live Action releases footage showing that Planned Parenthood of Chapel Hill and A Woman's Choice of Raleigh support sex selection abortions.

Read the recent Live Action Press Release below. Then, call your members of the General Assembly to tell them you support not giving tax dollars to those groups who perform abortions. Find your legislators' contact information at this link: NC General Assembly.

NC Planned Parenthood and NAF Support Sex-Selective Abortion in Undercover Tapes
Abortion Industry Participates In Real War on Women Through
Search-And-Destroy Procedures on Little Girls

Raleigh, NC –Today, Live Action released new undercover footage showing a National Abortion Federation (NAF) clinic in Raleigh and a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Chapel Hill advising women on how best to procure a sex-selective abortion of their baby girls because they want a boy instead. Live Action’s “Gendercide” project has now documented abortion clinics’ support for sex-selection at 8 clinics in 5 states.  The latest footage is available atwww.ProtectOurGirls.com

In the video, a counselor at NAF member “A Woman’s Choice of Raleigh, Inc” refers a woman purportedly seeking a sex-selective abortion to an OB/GYN to confirm the gender of the baby with a diagnostic ultrasound. The counselor, “Jessica,” assures that the clinic will not have a conflict with performing a sex-selective procedure: “Your reasons are your reasons,” she says, “You know, it’s totally fine.” She also advises the woman to lie to her OB/GYN to cover her sex-selective abortion, counseling, “Just say that you had to go to the hospital and miscarried.”

At Planned Parenthood’s Chapel Hill abortion clinic, the nurse “Michelle” confirms the woman’s sex-selective motive: “It sounds like you, um, would like confirmation of the gender of the pregnancy, and um, depending on that, would, you know, kind of make the decision for you.” When the woman says she is 16 weeks’ pregnant, the Planned Parenthood nurse notes, “You know, there are, um, increased risks with the abortion procedure,” at that stage. But when the woman asks, “Can you tell me a little bit about that?” the nurse changes the subject back to procuring an accurate sex-selective abortion: “Well, I could, but, um, what I think would be more relevant is to give you some referrals to UNC OB/GYN because they have a very wonderful ultrasound department who can give you a detailed ultrasound, um, and do further testing” to be sure of the sex of the fetus. When the woman asks if she might ever face a denial of abortion services at Planned Parenthood if she wants to abort future girl pregnancies, the nurse reassures her, “We do not turn patients away who are seeking our services.”

“This latest footage again shows Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry’s callous disregard for the health of women - born and unborn,” says Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action. “Planned Parenthood and their abortion allies are waging the real war on women, and tax payers should not have to subsidize the abortion-first mentality that enables extreme gender discrimination, puts women's health at risk, and destroys thousands of innocent lives.”

Planned Parenthood in North Carolina receives nearly $400,000 annually in taxpayer subsidies which Gov. Beverly Perdue has refused to cut.

Sex-selective abortion is legal in all but 4 states in the U.S. Last week, the Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act (PRENDA), which would prohibit sex-selective abortions nationwide, was introduced in the Senate. Planned Parenthood claims to condemn sex-selective abortion, but in a statement last month, President and CEO Cecile Richards opposed PRENDA because it would “limit [a woman’s] choices.” Six studies in the past four years indicate that there are thousands of “missing girls” in the U.S. from sex-selective abortion. Worldwide, over 160 million girls are missing because of sex-selective abortion.
